  12. San Francisco, January 6, 1993 — Responding to the need for multi-session Kodak
  13. PhotoCD™ compliant  internal CD ROM readers for Apple Computer’s Macintosh
  14. IIvi, IIvx, Quadra 950 and Performa 600, PLI introduced the PLI CD ROM MS
  15. Internal, a dual-speed CD ROM drive that  provides 200ms access time.  The new
  16. drive reads data at two different speeds; one for audio and another for data.
  17. Delivering sustained data transfer rates of 330K per second, the PLI CD ROM MS
  18. Internal sports a large 256 kilobyte buffer.  Scheduled to begin shipping in
  19. February 5, 1993, the new internal drive will be offered separately from a kit
  20. which provides the appropriate bezel and brackets for the type of Macintosh
  21. desired.

  27. The PLI CD ROM MS Internal’s contamination-free sealed enclosure contributes to
  28. the 50,000 mean time between failure rating.  CD’s are loaded using a caddy and
  29. then sealed by a door to provide dust protection.  The SCSI-2 compliant CD ROM
  30. drive supports ISO 9660, High Sierra, Apple Photo Access, Kodak PhotoCD, HFS
  31. and Audio CD formats.

  33. PlayCD, Hypercard™-based software that ships with every drive, allows the user
  34. to control the playing of audio CD’s from the desktop.  The PLI CD ROM MS
  35. Internal drive provides audio signals to external speakers through either an
  36. 1/8” mini-jack on the face of the drive or two RCA connectors mounted on a
  37. panel that fits in the existing port for a NuBus card.
